Engineer / Physicist – Experimental

Position Type: Full-Time or Short-Term Contract (with potential to convert to full-time). Position level depending on skill and experience.
What You’ll Do:
- Design, build, and conduct experiments using lasers, spectrometers, ultrasound systems, and laboratory electronics.
- Assemble and troubleshoot experimental setups with a hands-on approach. Perform laboratory experiments.
- Collaborate with the team to explore innovative solutions and test new ideas.
- Learn and apply new tools and technologies as projects evolve, such as assisting in the design, 3D printing, simulation, tradeoff analysis, fabrication, integration, and characterization of prototype sensor systems.
- Work with customers, collaborators, and team members and provide input in defining the direction of current and future projects.
- Analyze and process experimental data.
- Contribute to white paper and proposal efforts.
What We’re Looking For
Requirements:
- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience in a lab setting (e.g., university projects, prior work, or personal tinkering).
- A passion for building and experimenting—someone who’s quick to jump in and get their hands dirty.
- Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and adapting to new challenges.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident.
Nice to Have:
- Familiarity with lasers, acoustics, spectrometers, or ultrasound systems.
- Experience with Optical Imaging, Raman spectroscopy, Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy, Laser Ultrasound, Optical Enhancement Cavities, and/or nonlinear optics/wavelength shifting.
- Basic experience with mechanical CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks), 3D printing, PCB layout tools (e.g., Diptrace), or programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB).
- 1–5 years of experience working in a research lab with background in physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- Hands-on design experience in the development of optical sensors typically used in military or civilian applications.

Research Technician
Dual Sense is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Research Technician to support hands-on experimental work in our research lab. This role is well-suited for someone with an associate’s degree or technical training who enjoys working with their hands, maintaining equipment, and supporting scientific experiments. You’ll work alongside engineers and researchers on projects involving lasers, spectrometers, acoustics, and ultrasound systems. No prior industry experience required for motivated candidates.
Location: Conroe, TX
Position Type: Full-Time or Short-Term Contract (with potential to convert to full-time). Position level depending on skill and experience.
What You’ll Do:
- Set up, maintain, and operate laboratory equipment including lasers, spectrometers, ultrasound systems, and electronic instruments.
- Assist researchers in assembling and troubleshooting experimental setups.
- Perform routine laboratory experiments and record data accurately.
- Maintain lab organization, inventory, and safety standards.
- Assist with 3D printing, fabrication, and assembly of prototype components.
- Prepare samples, materials, and test fixtures for experiments.
- Document experimental procedures, results, and equipment logs.
- Learn and apply new tools and technologies as projects evolve.
What We’re Looking For
Requirements:
- Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Physics, Electronics, or equivalent technical training. Candidates with a BS degree are also welcome.
- Hands-on experience in a lab or workshop setting (e.g., university lab courses, technician work, or personal projects).
- Comfort working with tools, instruments, and electronic equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow experimental procedures carefully.
