Dual Sense is developing a wire rope inspection sensor based on detecting ultrasonic guided wave echoes arising from any broken cable wires. The sensor will be designed to be rugged, compact, man-portable, immune to EMI, and able to work in all weather conditions on a ship deck. Dual Sense leverages expertise in optics, ultrasound, and machine learning to develop novel systems that solve critical sensing problems. Initial targeted application of the sensor is to determine health of cross deck pendant (CDP) used on Naval flight decks. The sensor automates the inspection removing guess work from otherwise manual process. Based on demonstrated proof-of-principle measurements a prototype is currently under construction with the final goal to integrate and transition this technology into government and prime contractor systems.
